Helping ensure every volunteer firefighter is kept up to date on skills and know-how is a local individual.
Brian Walters, a volunteer firefighter in Gull Lake and full-time EMS member, has taken over as the training coordinator for the Saskatchewan Volunteer Firefighters Association.
He will be tasked with ensuring that when someone requests training for SVFA members they get the correct individual for the job.
"Basically, as training coordinator, I will be lining up instructors and I guess scheduling courses for Volunteer Fire departments throughout the province," said Walters.
While he has been based out of Gull Lake for the last seven years, Walters originally began his volunteer firefighting career in Assiniboia in 1995.
"From there I was in Ponteix for about 19 years," recalled Walters.
Anyone interested in scheduling some training is encouraged to reach out to Walters. He himself is excited for the work to begin.
"Just to continue on the training for both new members and the existing firefighters, old and new, throughout the province," said Walters. "Giving them some moe opportunities and to enhance and continue their training."
