Advanced Waste Solutions Recycling Reminder

Recently AWS has noticed that there might be some confusion regarding recycling practices. It has been brought to our attention that items that should be placed in garbage bins are unfortunately being placed in the recycle bins. With garbage entering the recycling stream, the entire load is contaminated and creates an extra cost to dispose of the load which results in additional costs for our community. The sorting and processing of contaminated recyclables incurs extra expenses, which may lead to an extra fee on our monthly invoice.

We understand that recycling guidelines can sometimes be confusing so we wanted to provide clarity on what can and cannot be recycled:

ACCEPTABLE ITEMS:

• cardboard, brown paper bags
• magazines and newspapers, inserts, flyers, office paper, loose writing paper, envelopes & junk mail
• plastic bottles, jugs & tubs, beverage containers (please rinse & clean)
• shredded paper must be in a clear recycling bag
• aluminum foil and aluminum foil containers (must be clean)
• metal food beverage cans & tins (please make sure to rinse & clean)

UNACCETABLE ITEMS:

• paint cans (can be taken to Sarcan), aerosols, lighters, batteries
• electronics (can be taken to Sarcan)
• foam/ styrofoam cups, food containers, egg cartons, packaging
• non-container plastic such as pens, straws
• mixed packaging: toothpaste tubes, deodorant sticks, or anything made from more than one type of material
• materials contaminated with food, chemicals or liquid remnants
• building/ construction materials: wood, drywall, tile, nails, concrete, bricks, vinyl siding
• scrap metal

Large amounts of cardboard or other recycling that will not fit in your recycling tote can be taken to the recycling bin located at the R.M. of Carmichael Office/ Shop at 30 Industrial Drive. Please remember to break down any large boxes.
